Предметом анализа в статье является одна из заметок «Библиотеки» византийского богослова, Константинопольского патриарха Фотия (cod. 129), в которой идет речь о «Метаморфозах» Луция Патрского. Интерпретация этой заметки чрезвычайно важна для истории античного романа, но в наиболее важных местах высказывания Фотия оказываются невнятными.
